High congressional Democrats are asking President Trump for a gathering earlier than an impending authorities shutdown.

“We write to demand a gathering in connection together with your determination to close down the federal authorities,” Senate Minority Chief Chuck Schumer and Home Democratic Chief Hakeem Jeffries, each of New York, wrote in a Saturday morning letter.

The pair say that GOP leaders have “repeatedly and publicly refused to interact in bipartisan negotiations to maintain the federal government open.”

The Home voted Friday to approve a short-term spending invoice to fund the federal government although Nov. 21.

The spending invoice failed within the Senate, as did a competing invoice by Senate Democrats.

Congress should act by Sept. 30 to fund the federal government in an effort to keep away from a shutdown.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., departs a press conference at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday. Johnson has been working to rally House Republicans behind a stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown, while also navigating growing pressure to boost security for lawmakers in the wake of Charlie Kirk's killing.
