In 2019, naturalists mentioned the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia was underneath risk after a mineral firm that owned land three miles away sought permits to mine zirconium and titanium. Simply when it appeared the mine could be accredited, a nonprofit known as the Conservation Fund paid $60 million to purchase the mining firm’s land. Skyler Henry stories.
