Boat accident in Congo kills greater than 100 individuals in second lethal capsizing this week

Kinshasa, Congo — Two separate boat accidents this week in northwestern Congo killed no less than 193 individuals and left scores lacking, authorities and state media reported Friday.

The accidents occurred on Wednesday and Thursday, about 150 kilometers aside within the Equateur province.

One boat with practically 500 passengers caught hearth and capsized Thursday night alongside the Congo River within the province’s Lukolela territory, Congo’s humanitarian affairs ministry stated in a report. The report stated 209 survivors had been rescued following the accident, involving a whaleboat close to the village of Malange in Lukolela territory.
