Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who’s operating for New York Metropolis mayor, met with Rev. Al Sharpton on Friday. 

Cuomo shared a photograph of the assembly at a New York Metropolis restaurant on his social media, writing, “Nice breakfast catching up with my previous pal, @real_sharpton.”

Sharpton additionally shared the picture on his social media, saying they’d a “breakfast assembly,” and that Democratic candidate and front-runner for mayor, Zohran Mamdani – who identifies as a Democratic socialist — could be on his MSNBC present “PoliticsNation” this weekend. 

Cuomo was seemingly reaching out to the politically influential Sharpton for an endorsement, the New York Submit reported, saying the previous governor – who resigned in 2021 amid sexual misconduct allegations – requested the civil rights activist to “have an open thoughts” in regards to the race.

“I’m very impressed with Mamdani, however I’ve identified Andrew for 40 years, going again to the ’80s together with his father,” Sharpton informed the Submit, referring to late former Gov. Mario Cuomo.

The assembly comes as present Democratic Mayor Eric Adams, who dropped out of the Democratic major and is operating as an Unbiased, is rumored to be contemplating dropping out of the race for a possible job provide within the Trump administration. Adams has denied planning to drop out.

Sharpton had beforehand referred to as on Cuomo to drop out of the race after Mamdani beat him within the Democratic major. 

“I feel, in the perfect curiosity of the legacy of Andrew Cuomo, that he should allow them to have the one-on-one race,” he mentioned, referring to Mamdani and Adams throughout an interview on MSNBC in July. “He can endorse one or the opposite, and allow them to have a battle over what’s finest for New York.”

 Cuomo spokesman Wealthy Azzopardi informed the Submit: “Governor Cuomo and Reverend Sharpton have stood aspect by aspect for many years, combating for justice and progress. They meet occasionally over breakfast to debate points essential to the town, the state, and the nation. Right now’s assembly was each productive and optimistic.”
