California’s first for-sale ADU inbuilt San José. Will it begin a housing revolution?

A 12 months after San José turned the primary California metropolis to undertake legal guidelines permitting accent dwelling items to be offered individually from the houses they abut, town introduced the completion of its first ADU condominium.

The condominium, situated close to downtown San José, is predicted to be the primary ADU in California that may be offered individually from the property’s foremost home, in keeping with a press launch issued Thursday by the metropolis of San José.

“ADUs are inexpensive by design and rising in recognition throughout the state, and now they will supply probably the most accessible type of dwelling possession, too,” Mayor Matt Mahan stated in a press release. He added that he hoped different California cities would comply with San José‘s lead.

Amid California’s ADU increase, San José has seen its development permits double within the final 5 years, town assertion stated.

Of about 1,900 purposes filed with town, 1,500 ADUs have been permitted in San José since 2022, in keeping with metropolis information. A complete of 1,100 closing constructing permits have been issued. Town has a inhabitants just below 1 million residents.
