I recall — I experience again — what it’s like to be so intensely absorbed in the present that both the future and the past are no source of trouble or excitement. It’s like stepping into a protective bubble, a momentary enclosure.

Sadly, this olfactory time travel happens less and less frequently. Even as I seek it out, the smell, once ubiquitous, has by and large disappeared.
