The sinkhole at Tanjong Katong Highway South has been crammed and testing is ongoing to arrange the stretch of street to be used. Herman Ching, director of nationwide water company PUB’s water reclamation (community) division, advised reporters late on Monday (28 July) that the sinkhole was refilled early within the day with liquefied stabilised soil, which is product of soil, cement and water.

When poured into the sinkhole, it’ll fill all of the voids in a matter of hours and ultimately type a “competent soil-like materials”. “This materials will present the power wanted for street development later,” he reportedly mentioned.

On PUB’s Fb web page, it mentioned that it is “conducting rigorous assessments and scans to detect underground cavities and confirm floor stability”. It added that “the assessments are:

1. ground-penetrating radar (GPR) scan, which makes use of radio waves to evaluate the subsurface layers;

2. probing, which entails drilling into the bottom to detect the bottom situation and presence of any voids; and

3. seismic scanning to report sound waves underground, to establish anomalies which may point out voids.”

In the meantime, the Constructing and Building Authority (BCA) will perform an impartial investigation into the sinkhole that shaped in Tanjong Katong Highway South, mentioned Nationwide Growth Minister Chee Hong Tat.
