A century-old shipwreck off the coast of Belgium has been repurposed as a breeding floor for uncommon flat oysters, in a bid to revive North Sea biodiversity. As a part of the EU-funded “Belreefs” undertaking, 200,000 oyster larvae have been positioned within the wreck’s hull in July – marking a significant step in efforts to revive a species almost worn out by overfishing, illness, and environmental degradation.
