Man escapes jail by hiding in baggage of fellow cellmate as he is launched in France

France’s jail service stated Saturday it had launched an investigation after a person escaped by smuggling himself into his cellmate’s bag as he left jail, having served his sentence. The person was captured on Monday.

The 20-year-old prisoner escaped from Lyon-Corbas jail, close to Lyon, southeast France, on Friday, broadcaster BFMTV reported. His cellmate had accomplished his sentence and the escaped prisoner managed to cover in his laundry bag as he left jail, the outlet reported.

The prisoner was arrested whereas rising from a cellar early on Monday in Corbas close to Lyon, prosecutors stated, including that his fellow prisoner confederate had not but been arrested.

The inmate was serving a number of sentences, the jail service stated in an announcement to AFP.

He “took benefit of the liberation of his fellow inmate to cover himself in his baggage and get out,” the assertion stated.

The escaped prisoner was additionally beneath investigation in a case linked to organized crime, a supply near the affair instructed AFP.

An inside investigation is underway and Lyon prosecutors had opened their very own investigations, the jail service added.

Sébastien Cauwel, the director of the jail administration, instructed BFMTV on Sunday that an “accumulation of errors” and “a collection of significant malfunctions” led to the escape.
