Craig Jones jokingly called himself a “camp curse” after Sean Strickland publicly asked him to return for another training camp following UFC 328.

The interaction started after Jones praised Strickland’s defensive grappling performance against Khamzat Chimaev during their middleweight title fight. The renowned submission specialist highlighted Strickland’s defense and ability to survive dangerous grappling exchanges.

Strickland responded by revealing he had been trying to convince Jones to come back and train with him again ever since their previous work together. He commented:

“Been begging you to come back to train with me ever since that day. Your back control and chokes are on a different level.”

Jones then replied with a self-deprecating joke, calling himself a “camp curse.” He replied:

“@stricklandmma you didn’t even need it. Genuinely, I’m a camp curse.”

Strickland reclaimed the UFC middleweight championship with a split-decision victory over Chimaev in Newark, handing the UFC star the first loss of his professional MMA career. After surviving a dominant opening round from Chimaev, Strickland gradually shut down the wrestling-heavy attack and forced the fight into a striking battle across the later rounds.

Daniel Cormier believes Sean Strickland could have punished Khamzat Chimaev even more

Daniel Cormier believes Sean Strickland’s performance against Khamzat Chimaev was impressive but still left room for an even more dominant showing.

Speaking on his YouTube channel after UFC 328, the UFC Hall of Famer said he felt Chimaev experienced a major adrenaline dump after the first round and thought Strickland missed an opportunity to fully capitalize during the third frame.

Cormier praised Strickland’s adjustments after being controlled early and pointed to his jab and defensive wrestling as the biggest reasons behind the comeback victory. He said:

“You got a Sean Strickland that got taken down in Round 1. Round 2 scored his own takedowns, Round 3 controlled the fight with the jab. Honestly, I thought Strickland made a mistake in Round 3 by not really pressing on the gas because I felt like Khamzat had a bit of an adrenaline dump. If he’d really pressed him, he really could have made Khamzat struggle down the stretch, but he didn’t. But he wins Round 3. Round 4, Khamzat comes back and he fights like Khamzat. I thought Strickland’s jab was probably the most effective punch of the entire fight.”
