Mexican veteran Hirving “Chucky” Lozano was not included on the 55-man provisional roster for this summer’s World Cup released on Wednesday by national team manager Javier Aguirre.

Lozano, 30, has 18 goals in 75 appearances since his debut with the senior Mexican national team in February 2016. He’s represented Mexico at the last two World Cups, scoring a goal against Germany in group play of the 2018 event and totaling four more tallies in World Cup qualifiers.

However, he was likely passed over due to being out of form. He remains rostered with MLS side San Diego FC — racking up nine goals and nine assists in his debut season last year — but hasn’t played yet this season after he was benched late in the season after a verbal altercation.

Mexico will cut the provisional roster essentially in half and name its finalized 26-man roster by June 1 for this summer’s World Cup, which is being hosted in Mexico along with Canada and the United States.

Mexico faces South Africa in the opening match of the event June 11 in Mexico City, joining the Czech Republic and South Korea in Group A.
