First Arena-Based Ceremony
This marks the first opening ceremony at a Commonwealth Games held inside an arena rather than an outdoor stadium. Glasgow 2026 ceremonies creative lead Louisa Mahon explains it is “being designed to be experienced, not observed.” She leads a team featuring show and staging director Roxana Cole, choreographer Emily-Jane Boyle, and costume designer Carole Millar.
“We’re working with some incredible female creatives to build a ceremony that’s bold, unmistakably Glasgow, and unlike anything the Commonwealth Games has produced before,” Mahon states.
Volunteer Requirements and Auditions
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, with no prior experience required. Organizers encourage passionate individuals from all backgrounds to apply, highlighting the city’s diverse communities and cultures. The April 24 deadline may shift earlier due to high demand, followed by auditions in Glasgow on May 9-10.
