What’s new at the renovated Grand Hyatt DFWA look inside the newly redesigned roomsLocation: Staying inside DFW AirportHow to book the Grand Hyatt DFW with pointsBottom line

Sometimes, when you’re in the middle of a grueling trip, the most welcome sight in the entire world is an airport hotel with a crisp, fluffy bed waiting just for you.

But there are hotels near the airport, and then there are hotels actually inside the airport, just a few convenient steps away from arriving and departing flights — no shuttle buses or extra travel required.

The Grand Hyatt DFW is firmly in that latter camp. Located inside Terminal D at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), it’s long been considered one of the best airport hotels in the U.S. — and a recent $34 million renovation has made it even better.

TPG recently stepped inside for a first look at the newly refreshed Grand Hyatt DFW, and it’s safe to say we’re already looking forward to our next excuse to stay in one of the hotel’s 315 modern rooms with runway views.

Here’s what to expect in this newly renovated ultra-convenient airport hotel.

What’s new at the renovated Grand Hyatt DFW

The Grand Hyatt DFW renovation touched virtually every corner of the hotel, so from the moment you check in to when you grab a cocktail at the bar — and even when you close the automatic blackout shades for the night — you’re in a modern, refreshed space.

For example, the top floor of the hotel has been transformed from its previous life as a gym into an event space, complete with an indoor-outdoor area adjacent to the rooftop pool (which has runway views). And if you want to squeeze in a workout, there’s now a gym on the first floor, complete with Peloton bikes (so you can earn bonus Hyatt points while you get a workout!) and other high-end fitness equipment.

The renovation also increased the hotel’s guest room count from 298 to 315, giving travelers even more opportunities to book a room and spend the night.

The hotel’s Grand Met Restaurant and Lounge has a fresh look and an “inventive and internationally inspired menu” that goes far beyond the standard burger and fries (though they have that, too). The menu includes options such as lump crabcake, whipped burrata, ahi tuna crudo, black angus ribeye and filet mignon.

A look inside the newly redesigned rooms

Arguably, the most important part of an airport hotel (along with its actual proximity to the airport) is the rooms, where your goals probably just consist of a hot shower and the ability to sleep as long as possible before the next flight.

In many ways, the renovated rooms are the highlight of the Grand Hyatt DFW refresh. The look is partly inspired by the hues of Texas western prairies (greens, blues and browns) but also features aviation-inspired touches like planespotting books, end tables shaped like wings, and plane art — and even carpeting reminiscent of the aerial view of DFW’s gates and terminals.

Of course, there are also large TVs and modern touches such as integrated lighting, more outlets and charging ports. The bathrooms have a brighter look as well, with larger vanities and even soaking tubs in some rooms.

Location: Staying inside DFW Airport

One of the very best parts of the Grand Hyatt DFW — its location — has stayed exactly the same. You are just steps from Terminal D security and, unless you want to take in the runway views from the rooftop pool, you never even have to step outside to go from the airport to your room at the Grand Hyatt DFW.

How to book the Grand Hyatt DFW with points

The only downside to the Grand Hyatt DFW is that it’s pricier than you might expect for an airport hotel.

But then again, we are talking about what may well be the best (and most convenient) airport hotel in the country, so it is priced accordingly, with cash rates often topping $400 per night and points rates currently ranging from 17,000 to 23,000 World of Hyatt points per night as a Category 5 property.

If you want to stay at a Hyatt near DFW at what is likely a lower cost, there is also the Hyatt Regency DFW (currently a Category 3 Hyatt property) or the Hyatt Place DFW (a Category 2 property, with award rates starting at just 6,500 World of Hyatt points per night).

TPG Tip: You can transfer points to Hyatt from both Bilt Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Bottom line

Whether you want to stay for the planespotting courtesy of the runway view rooms, the in-terminal proximity and convenience or the fresh $34 million renovation touches that make it now an even nicer hotel, the Grand Hyatt DFW is an exceptional choice for an overnight at DFW.
