A powerful boom rattled eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania following sightings of a meteor streaking over Cleveland. Emergency lines received numerous calls describing an “earthquake-like explosion.”

Pittsburgh’s National Weather Service confirmed multiple reports of a loud boom accompanied by a fireball in the sky. Satellite data indicates the event likely involved a meteor entering the atmosphere.

Meteorologist Brian Mitchell explained that the meteor burned up high in the atmosphere, with no evidence of any impact on the ground.
