Princess Charlene of Monaco turned heads in a striking all-gold ensemble at the Michelin Guide award ceremony held in Monaco on March 16. The outfit featured a matching gold blazer and trousers paired with a shimmering sheer shirt, creating an aura of opulence. The golden silk suit and mesh top draw from Giorgio Armani’s signature style.
Charlene swept her blonde hair back into a sleek side part that elegantly swept across her forehead. She complemented the look with a reflective purse and pointed-toe heels while joining Prince Albert II on the red carpet. Prince Albert appeared sharp in a navy suit for the black-tie event.
Monaco hosted the prestigious Michelin Guide ceremony for the first time, celebrating new restaurant awards and outstanding culinary achievements.
Charlene’s Signature Up-Dos
The princess often opts for polished up-dos like neat buns or beehive styles during official appearances. Just last week, on March 13, she attended the Provale Solidarité charity gala at the Hotel George V in Paris. Strands of wavy hair framed her low bun, enhancing her crystal-embellished Oscar de la Renta gown.
Fashion stylist Leanne Jones notes that the sleek, understated hair allows her elaborate gowns to shine. “Once again, she has opted for sleek, understated hair, something she does so well that allows her often maximalist, formal gowns to take centre stage,” Jones says. “The subtle twist here is the single curl falling on the right side of her face. To me, it feels like a quiet homage to the hairstyles of her late mother-in-law, Grace Kelly. If that was indeed the inspiration, it has been executed beautifully.”
Royals Embrace Gold on Red Carpets
While royals typically favor minimalist tailoring, gold outfits make occasional appearances. The Princess of Wales captivated at the 2021 No Time to Die premiere in a plunging gold gown with metallic cape sleeves. She wore gold again in September 2025 for a U.S. state dinner at Windsor Castle, donning a lace Phillipa Lepley gown.
The late Queen Elizabeth II also chose a sparkling gold dress under a white fur shawl for a 1963 opera evening.
