Sir Peter Westmacott, who represented the UK in Washington DC from 2012 to 2016 and served as then-Prince Charles’s deputy private secretary from 1990 to 1993, calls the trip ‘problematic.’

The royal couple plans to travel to Washington and New York to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Concerns Over Perception and Diplomacy

Sir Peter warns that the visit could appear as an endorsement of the US-Israeli war efforts. He stresses that the government holds a duty to protect the monarchy in such circumstances and to mirror public opinion.

Instead of cancellation, Sir Peter advocates for a postponement to avoid antagonizing ‘thin-skinned’ President Trump.

Should King Charles go ahead with the US state visit next month if the Iran war continues? Cast your vote below.

In the last poll, 56 percent of more than 5,000 respondents said yes to whether Dubai’s appeal as a tax-free haven for Brits has ended, compared to 44 percent who disagreed.
