Arrival in the Northern Territory

The Danish royals landed in Perth on Friday before flying to the Northern Territory on Saturday for their first public outing. At Ayers Rock Airport, Australian-born Queen Mary, dressed in a stylish beige long skirt and vibrant blouse, waved to waiting media as she disembarked the plane.

Local guides welcomed the couple, who later held an Akubra hat during greetings. They plan to engage with Indigenous communities and witness Uluru’s breathtaking sunset.

Upcoming Itinerary in Canberra

On Sunday, the royals head to Canberra for a warm reception at Government House hosted by Governor-General Sam Mostyn, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and his wife Jodie Haydon. Mostyn will host a formal state dinner.

The visit includes a trip to Parliament House, featuring a ceremonial 21-gun salute.

Historic Significance

This tour echoes the 1983 British royal visit when Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles explored the sacred site. It marks Queen Mary’s first return to Australia since ascending the throne in January 2024—the first by a Danish monarch in 40 years.

The last official Danish royal visit occurred 13 years ago, making this the couple’s fourth joint tour Down Under.
