Blake Putman, a 37-year-old star from TLC’s Meet The Putmans, vividly recounts the devastating semi-truck collision in September 2025 that claimed the lives of his wife Megan, parents Bill and Barb. The family of 25, featured in the 2017 reality series about their multigenerational household, faced unimaginable loss just one mile from their Michigan home.

The Tragic Crash

Putman describes driving back from his son Noah’s football game in three separate vehicles. His car carried eight passengers, including Megan, Bill, Barb, Noah (15), daughters Lulu (13) and Alena (11), and niece Gia. A semi-truck ignored a stop sign and slammed into Putman’s door.

‘He hit my door, and how God allowed me to be where I am today, I’m not really sure,’ Putman states. ‘I remember the entire thing: I remember the car hitting us. I remember being on the road. I remember a lot of scenes inside the vehicle.’

Megan held her arms around him at impact, while Bill slept. Autopsy reports confirm Bill, Barb, and Megan died instantly at the scene.

Injuries and Remarkable Recoveries

Putman sustained broken bones, including in his neck, plus lacerations. Noah and Gia suffered traumatic brain injuries. Gia, daughter of Putman’s brother Brandon, required airlifting for emergency surgery, followed by 10 brain operations. She returned home in January and now attends daily rehab.

Brandon highlights Gia’s progress: ‘She broke her clavicle and left humerus… it’s a miracle.’ Gia recently spoke her first word, ‘mom,’ and obsessively practices math at home. ‘We can’t stop her… she goes to bed doing math.’

Noah has returned to school and anticipates resuming football. Lulu and Alena also recovered from their injuries.

Family Resilience and Forgiveness

The family shared the news on Instagram: ‘Our family was in a tragic car accident and we lost Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan. They have gone home to the Lord.’ They requested prayers for the survivors and affirmed faith in divine control.

In January, relatives marked Bill and Barb’s would-be 43rd anniversary. Recent updates praise Gia’s ‘miraculous’ recovery speed.

Semi-truck driver Pavel B. Shchukin pleaded no contest to three misdemeanor counts of moving violation causing death in December 2025. He received a one-year jail sentence and $1,425 in fines. At sentencing, Putman and brothers Billy and Brandon presented Shchukin with a Bible and extended forgiveness.

Family members rally around Gia, taking turns reading the Bible and singing to her. ‘The compassion and selflessness is amazing,’ Brandon notes.

Putman reflects deeply on Megan: ‘Megan is my soulmate… I can’t love someone as much as I love you, and this be it.’
