Executive Search and Appointment

The CMA Board of Directors conducted an extensive search that drew interest from top marketing leaders across Canada, underscoring the association’s rising prominence in the industry.

“I am honoured to join the CMA at such an important moment for our profession,” said Esther Benzie. “Marketing continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, and the CMA plays a vital role in emboldening, educating and connecting marketers across Canada. I look forward to working closely with the Board, the CMA team and our members to continue building a strong, future-proof marketing community.”

Extensive Leadership Experience

Benzie offers over 30 years of marketing leadership across multinational firms, Canadian companies, industry groups, vendors and startups. She held senior roles at Procter & Gamble and CIBC, where she directed the global relaunch of the CIBC brand and managed key marketing initiatives. Previously, she served as Senior Advisor and Acting President & CEO of the Association of Canadian Advertisers.

Most recently, Benzie consulted with Listenmore and co-founded ShiftUp Coaching, delivering leadership and marketing guidance to executives. She holds an MBA, serves as a trained board director and executive coach, aligning her skills in brand strategy, marketing transformation, client services and leadership development with the CMA’s goals.

Board Chair’s Endorsement

“The CMA has built strong momentum in recent years, expanding its role as a national voice for marketers and strengthening the value it delivers to members,” said Alan Depencier, CMA Board Chair and SVP and CMO, Commercial Banking and Insurance at RBC. “Esther brings the leadership and perspective needed to help the Association continue that progress and support marketers as the profession evolves.”

CMA’s Strong Foundation

Under Simpson’s tenure, the CMA enhanced its programs, membership benefits and national presence, positioning it strongly for the transition with an engaged team and defined strategy.

The CMA champions marketing’s impact in Canada, fostering professional growth, thought leadership, networking and a supportive regulatory environment. Its Chartered Marketer (CM) designation ensures adherence to top standards and ethics. Representing major sectors and disciplines, the CMA also operates a Consumer Centre to inform Canadians on rights and obligations. For more details, visit thecma.ca.
