A 67-year-old hiker died Tuesday within the Grand Canyon, park officers stated Wednesday as forecasters within the area warned of extreme and life-threatening warmth.

The hiker, from Alvarado, Texas, was discovered unresponsive on the South Kaibab Path beneath Cedar Ridge round 11:50 a.m., and efforts to resuscitate him failed, the Nationwide Park Service stated in an announcement.
