The Los Angeles Chargers are parting ways with Super Bowl-winning guard Mekhi Becton less than a year after he inked a $20 million contract. The move frees up $9.7 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season reinforcements.

Becton’s Rapid Rise and Recent Struggles

Nicknamed ‘Big Ticket’ for his imposing 6-foot-7, 363-pound frame, Becton started 14 games for the Chargers last season. However, injuries and performance issues marred his 2025 campaign.

Prior to Los Angeles, Becton played a key role in the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans last February. He started all 19 games that year, including the postseason clash, on a one-year deal signed in April 2024.

NFL Career Highlights

Drafted 11th overall by the New York Jets in 2020 out of Louisville, the 26-year-old has started 59 NFL games. Injuries plagued his Jets tenure, leading to his departure after the 2023 season. Now, Becton seeks his third team in three years.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh plans to overhaul the interior offensive line this offseason, prompting the release.
