The running back who won the 2026 Super Bowl MVP award is likely heading out the door. Another one was locked by his team before he could test the market. The contrast between Kenneth Walker III and Breece Hall on Tuesday could not have been sharper, and NFL fans noticed.
Hall was franchise tagged by the Jets, while the Seahawks declined to use theirs on Walker ahead of the 4 p.m. ET deadline. He is headed to free agency for the first time.
Thanks for the submission!
“Breece Hall is envious,” one fan wrote.

“I think the Seahawks letting a literal Super Bowl MVP walk in free agency is the most Seattle thing ever,” another fan wrote.
“They do realize he was the entire reason they won that Super Bowl right????” a fan tweeted.
“Wow Seahawks dynasty ending right after it got started,” one fan said.
“Has a Super Bowl MVP ever been declined a tag the year after,” a fan tweeted.
“He won’t have Charbonnet to save him from his injury problems this year,” another fan said.
Walker rushed for 135 yards on 26 carries in the Super Bowl versus the New England Patriots, totaling 161 all-purpose yards. He became the first running back in 28 years to claim Super Bowl MVP. Seattle general manager John Schneider passed on the $14 million franchise tag, with ESPN citing Walker’s injury history before 2025 as a factor.
Walker is generating enough outside interest that his departure from the Seahawks looks likely, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano.

What happens next for Seattle’s backfield if Kenneth Walker exits?

The Seahawks aren’t swimming in running back depth without Kenneth Walker. Zach Charbonnet, Seattle’s top backup who led the team with 12 touchdowns in 2025, tore his ACL in the divisional round against San Francisco.
The legal tampering period opens March 9. Teams can sign Walker starting March 11. The Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars have been floated as potential landing spots, according to ESPN.
