Expand Energy Corporation (EXE), the leading U.S. natural gas producer, featured prominently at the 47th Annual Raymond James Institutional Investor Conference on March 2, 2026. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Josh Viets engaged in a fireside chat, outlining the company’s operations and strategic assets.
Company Formation and History
Expand Energy emerged from the 2024 merger of Chesapeake Energy and Southwestern Energy, marking nearly 18 months of operations. Both legacy firms pioneered development in U.S. shale plays, establishing a strong foundation in unconventional gas reservoirs.
Production Scale and Market Position
The company delivers approximately 7.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas per day on a net basis, accounting for roughly 10% of the nation’s total gross supply. This positions Expand Energy as the top natural gas producer in the country.
Key Assets Across Major Basins
Expand Energy holds significant holdings in the two premier natural gas basins in the Lower 48 states: the Haynesville Shale and the Appalachia Basin, stretching from eastern Ohio to northeastern Pennsylvania. Viets emphasized this dual-basin presence as a core strength.
“We think that’s a unique advantage for the company,” Viets stated. “And that’s really just because there’s different demand dynamics that are existing in both places.”
