Leonardo DiCaprio is not going to be present at the 32nd annual Actor Awards, the event is happening this Sunday, despite him being nominated for two awards for his latest movie role.

The event, which was previously known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, will be held at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles, and it will be broadcast live on Netflix. However, Leonardo DiCaprio can’t attend as he has work commitments abroad.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s nonappearance happens at a time when the actor is having a lot of awards season, and he is also in the running for an Academy Award this year. The actor has won both an Actor Award and an Oscar for The Revenant in 2016, and this time Leonardo DiCaprio is not going to be at the Actor Awards ceremony in person.

Leonardo DiCaprio will skip the 2026 Actor Awards as he is currently in Europe filming Martin Scorsese’s What Happens at Night, creating a scheduling conflict with the ceremony.

Why is Leonardo DiCaprio not attending the award ceremony?

Leonardo DiCaprio is in Europe filming What Happens at Night with the director Martin Scorsese. So, the coincidence of the schedules has been a reason for him not to fly back to Los Angeles for the event. This movie, besides being the seventh time that Leonardo and Scorsese work together, also features Jennifer Lawrence.

What Happens at Night has been portrayed as a ghost story novel retelling about a married couple who travel to Europe to adopt a child and decide to stay at an isolated hotel, which is full of bizarre characters. This film is the first collaboration between Lawrence and Scorsese on the big screen.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated at the Actor Awards for outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role for the role and outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture for his work in One Battle After Another. In the category of the leading actor, the other competitors are Timothee Chalamet, Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan, and Jesse Plemons. The movie, which is in the ensemble category, has competition from Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, and Sinners.

Leonardo was nominated for his performance in One Battle After Another, a black comedy action thriller of 2025 from the director Paul Thomas Anderson. The movie is a loose adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, and its story revolves around a former revolutionary who is compelled to resort to violence again when he and his daughter are targeted by a wicked army officer.

In the movie, Leonardo is Ghetto Pat Calhoun, who is also secretly known as Bob Ferguson. Back in the day, he was one of the members of the radical French 75 group. His character is shown as living a secluded life with his teenage daughter, Willa. The story gets interesting when a past enemy, Col. Steven J. Lockjaw, comes out of nowhere with a plan that puts father and daughter in danger. Sean Penn is playing the role of Lockjaw.

The story touches on political extremism, secret societies, and the effects that generations have on each other. The main cast is rounded out with Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti. The movie had its world premiere on September 8, 2025, at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. Warner Bros. Pictures released the movie in the U.S. on September 26.

Although it failed to meet the expectations set by its enormous production budget, One Battle After Another became the highest-grossing movie of Anderson’s career, garnering a wide range of positive reviews from critics.

It had a successful run at the various award ceremonies, resulting in a Critics’ Choice Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA, among others, plus it was nominated for 13 Oscars at the 98th Academy Awards.
