Rotten Tomatoes may get the word out about the best movies, but it’s not meant to be the ultimate decider of what’s good and what isn’t.
Netflix has a wide assortment of films with high Rotten Tomatoes scores, and also a large contingent of good movies that were far from beloved by critics.
Rather than letting these films go unnoticed, Watch With Us is throwing the spotlight on three good Netflix movies with bad Rotten Tomatoes scores.
Our picks this month include a coming-of-age teenage drama, a romantic dramedy and a thrilling action flick.
‘Flipped’ (2010)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 54 percent
Flipped is a film from the late director Rob Reiner that was critically slammed upon its release in 2010. In the intervening years, this adaptation of Wendelin Van Draanen‘s novel has become a cult classic. Madeline Carroll stars as Julianna “Juli” Baker, a teenager who has been infatuated with her neighbor, Bryce Loski (Callan McAuliffe).
Rather than immediately returning Juli’s feelings, Bryce spends years running from them. It’s only when they are both in high school that Bryce begins to reciprocate the attraction that Juli had for him. By then, it may already be too late as she hardens her heart. Now, Bryce has to figure out who he truly wants to be and who he wants to be with.

‘The Mirror Has Two Faces’ (1996)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 54 percent
Barbra Streisand directed and stars in The Mirror Has Two Faces as Rose Morgan, a professor at Columbia University who has never had a fulfilling romantic relationship with a man. Similarly, Rose’s colleague, Gregory Larkin (Jeff Bridges), has been dumped by his lover and forced to question his ability to interact with the opposite sex.
The modern comedy movies that arrived on Netflix in January are very unimpressive and not worthy of a place among the best. ‘Vertical Limit’ (2000)

Vertical Limit is a survival thriller that takes place on K2, the second-highest mountain in the world. It might as well be an alien planet for estranged siblings Peter (Chris O’Donnell) and Annie Garrett (Robin Tunney). Both are experienced climbers, but there’s a deep emotional gap between them following a tragic event years before.
When an accident threatens the lives of Annie and her climbing companions, Elliot Vaughn (Bill Paxton) and Tom McLaren (Nicholas Lea), Peter comes out of his self-imposed retirement. He soon forms a rescue party with Monique Aubertine (Izabella Scorupco) and Montgomery Wick (Scott Glenn), despite the latter’s ulterior motives for joining. Meanwhile, Annie’s life may be in more danger from one of her companions, who is determined to live no matter who he has to kill.
