The Denver Broncos promoted Davis Webb to offensive coordinator on February 2, 2026. He previously worked as the team’s offensive pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

NFL insider Nick Kosmider has posed a big question about the new Denver Broncos offensive coordinator.

“Will Sean Payton, for the first time in his lengthy career as a head coach, let someone else call plays?, Kosmider asked on The Athletic

“Webb took himself out of the running for the Las Vegas Raiders head coach job, for which he had interviewed twice, and passed on offensive coordinator opportunities elsewhere that would have come with play-calling responsibilities. Would he have done those things if he wasn’t getting the same opportunity in Denver?”

Payton has famously called plays in every team that he’s coached. His play-calling led to 14 wins last season, before they narrowly lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.

The Broncos fired former offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi shortly after the 10-7 loss. They’re now set for a new era under a coach that’s well acquainted with the franchise.

Davis Webb brings quarterback expertise to Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos

Davis Webb had an impressive college football career playing quarterback for Texas Tech and California. The New York Giants selected Webb in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft.

Webb played for the Giants, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills before retiring at the end of the 2022 season. He promptly joined the Denver Broncos as a quarterbacks coach on February 23, 2023.

Davis Webb has been instrumental in Bo Nix’s development since the Broncos drafted him in 2024. He’ll now be expected to bring that expertise on a grander scale as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Nix suffered a season-ending ankle injury at the end of their divisional round win against the Buffalo Bills. Webb’s first task will be to work with Sean Payton to determine their QB situation heading into the 2026 season. The team will enter the campaign as favorites to make yet another deep postseason run.
