Aja Smith suffered a major setback earlier this month. Four of her family members passed away in an unfortunate house fire. Her grandmother, grandfather, uncle, and cousin lost their lives. After the funerals, Smith sent a message on social media.

Smith took to Instagram to break her silence two weeks after the incident. She said that losing four of her family members was the “craziest thing” in her life. The WWE official was heartbroken but thanked her friends, co-workers, supporters, and former colleagues for their donations to her GoFundMe initiative.

Aja Smith was distraught after witnessing the burial of four members of her family. She added that there was no way they could have completed the ceremony without the abovementioned donations. The 31-year-old concluded by saying that she would forever be indebted to her supporters for lending a helping hand to her family in tough times.

“The funeral just ended, and I could not just let this day end without saying something. It’s been like two weeks, and I really have been silent because this has been the craziest thing in my life, and I’m not gonna lie, but I’m so all over the place. I just wanna say thank you guys. There is quite literally no way my family could bury four people. All your donations. I’m literally shaking. The fact that my indie family, fans, my WWE family, and I’m sure strangers, I just have to send you the biggest thank you,” Aja Smith said in a video.

Aja Smith Made History by Being Signed to WWE

In 2020, Aja Smith began her refereeing career in NXT. In the process, she became the first African-American full-time female referee signed to WWE. However, she came from a wrestling background and sought better means to become an official in World Wrestling Entertainment.

Smith initially wrestled as Aja Perera across the US, Mexico, and Japan. However, in her current job, she has to ensure matches go according to plan.
