Married At First Sight Australia contestant Bec Zacharia expresses deep regret for remaining silent during a heated dinner party confrontation involving bride Stella Mickunaite.
Bec’s Self-Reflection on the Incident
Bec Zacharia admits watching the episode back proved confronting and upsetting. She voices profound disappointment in her own behavior, stating, ‘I have such huge disappointment in myself, because I don’t act this way. The fact that I was even sitting on that side of the table was atrocious.’
During the event, Stella, 32, faced intense criticism from Brook Crompton and Gia Fleur, with attacks also targeting Alissa Fay. Bec aligned herself with Brook and Gia, especially amid their clash with Alissa, after learning from Gia and her husband Scott McCristal that Alissa had called her relationship ‘fake.’
Bec acknowledges her role, saying, ‘It’s not acceptable to not stand up for these poor women who are getting absolutely throttled by bullies. And I became one for a night and it’s not okay. I need to take a long hard look at myself.’
She emphasizes collective responsibility: ‘Whoever sat there quiet also owes Stella and Alissa an apology; all of us are just as bad for not shutting it down.’ Bec confirms she has apologized publicly to Stella and multiple times to Alissa, who attended her recent birthday party.
Rejecting Claims of Producer Influence
Bec dismisses Gia’s assertions that producers orchestrated the clash or that editing misrepresented events. ‘This is not an edit. What happened is what happened. No producer can make you go in there and scream at people,’ Bec states. She urges accountability, adding, ‘To say that behind the scenes the producers are making you do this is absolute bulls***, and she needs to be a big girl and take accountability.’
Bec also refutes suggestions that Stella flirted with other husbands, calling it ‘categorically untrue’ and a ‘fabricated narrative’ that causes serious harm.
The Dinner Party Confrontation
The tension peaked as Brook unleashed sharp remarks at Stella: ‘You need to have a clue and realise. I’m standing up for myself because I see someone like you: “I’m so deep, I’m so deep.” I don’t think you’re deep, I just think you’re f***ing dumb.’
Stella responded, ‘You’re very abrasive. And what you’ve been all night is barking at other women.’ Gia interjected, ‘Barking, babe. That’s lovely. Why don’t you go back in your kennel, babe.’
Brook continued, labeling Stella a ‘very rude b***h’ and mocking her footwear: ‘Hey babe, while you’re at it, get the stripper boots off. If you’re going to buy stripper boots, buy 100 per cent lamb, don’t buy fake leather.’
When Alissa urged Brook to calm down, Brook told her to ‘shut up’ and called her an ‘idiot.’ Gia then remarked, ‘You wonder why everyone hates you, babe, that’s why,’ with Bec agreeing in the moment.
Call for Viewer Grace
Acknowledging potential backlash, Bec seeks understanding: ‘I’m hated by everyone it seems. I’ve had more hate messages overnight than I think there are comments on Instagram. That’s fine, I’ve got a thick skin. It’s deserved but, at the same time, I’m a human being and we all make mistakes. I’m asking for a little bit of grace.’
