Jalen Brunson had a message for the New York Knicks front office regarding his next contract, which is due in a couple of years. Brunson has taken the Knicks to the next level, with the franchise having a real shot at winning its first title in 53 years this season.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Brunson discussed the sacrifice he made when he signed a four-year, $156.5 million extension in 2024. He took a $113 million pay cut to allow the Knicks to build a contender around him. The Knicks just did that, but Brunson is hoping to get rewarded in 2028.
Thanks for the submission!
“Obviously, we’d love for them to do right by me,” Brunson said. “I think anyone would. I feel like I sacrificed.”

Jalen Brunson will be 32 years old in 2028, but he’s hoping to sign the biggest contract of his career. He’s eligible for a whopping five-year, $417.8 million extension.
Smaller guards tend to have a decline in their mid-30s, so it will be interesting to see if Brunson will be able to keep his production up. The New York Knicks would certainly give him an extension like that if he brings a championship to the franchise.
Nevertheless, Brunson and the Knicks have their best shot to do it this season. They are third in the East at 35-20, overcoming issues last month. They have won eight of their last 10 games heading into the second half of the season.
Jalen Brunson thinks they’re missing something this season
In addition to having a new coach in Mike Brown, Jalen Brunson believes the New York Knicks are missing something this season. Brunson pointed it out in his interview with Vanity Fair.
“We’re very gifted. We’re very talented,” Brunson said. “But we need the little things that help us be better, the intangibles. We got to that point last year where we had it. We don’t have it right now.”
The Knicks acquired Jose Alvarado at the trade deadline and signed Jeremy Sochan from waivers. They are two capable players who can contribute to the team without needing the ball in their hands.
Alvarado has already been a spark off the bench in his first three games for the Knicks, while Sochan might need a little time to adjust since he barely played for the Spurs this season.
The Knicks resume their season on Thursday at Madison Square Garden, welcoming the East-leading Detroit Pistons.
