Robert Duvall, known for his dynamic acting performances in The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Network and more, has died at age 95.

“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time,” Duvall’s wife, Luciana Pedraza, announced via Facebook on Monday, February 16. “Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.”

The statement continued, “To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.”

Fans of the actor offered their condolences to the family in the comments section of the post.

“Both of my kids are named after his character in Lonesome Dove. My daughter’s middle name is Augusta and my son’s is McRae. He was truly one of the good guys. God bless you and your family,” one person commented underneath the post, while a second person said, “He will live on through his body of work, legends like Robert are immortal because what they leave behind.”

“Rest in Peace, dear man. Beautiful tribute. He finessed every character with excellence. For what greater gift could he have given than to whet the movie goer’s appetite for the finest in filmmaking,” said a third person, while a fourth wrote, “One of the greats. The Godfather is not The Godfather without Tom Hagen.”

In the months prior to his death, Duvall shared a video via Facebook sending a message to his fans for the holidays.

“To all my fans, have a happy happy Thanksgiving and a great year coming up. God bless,” he said in the November 2025 clip.

As for the role he was most proud of, Duvall pointed to miniseries Lonesome Dove in which he played Captain Augustus “Gus” McCrae alongside Tommy Lee Jones‘ Captain Woodrow F. Call.

“Well, there’s some I wanna forget, but there are some I feel good about,” Duvall told USA Today in 2021. “I would say probably the one that people respond to the most, and one I remember with a great deal of affection, was the miniseries Lonesome Dove. The Western is our genre in the United States of America. The English have Shakespeare, the French have Molière, the Russians have Chekhov, but we have the Western.”

Duvall is survived by Pedraza, whom he married in 2005. He did not have any children.
