There has been an update about Stone Cold Steve Austin potentially appearing at WWE WrestleMania 42. The Show of Shows will air live from Allegiant Stadium for the second year in a row in April.
Sean Ross Sapp responded to a question on the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, wondering if the match between CM Punk and Roman Reigns has cooled down the chance that The Rattlesnake will be appearing at WrestleMania 42. Sapp pointed out the World Heavyweight Championship match between Punk and Reigns lessened Austin’s chance of competing at the event.
Thanks for the submission!
He noted Austin’s age and that the legend would not be able to perform forever. Sapp stated that if CM Punk were to go in “dream match mode” after this year’s WrestleMania, a bout against Stone Cold Steve Austin may still be on the table in the future.
CM Punk captured the World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1, 2025. He will be defending the title against Finn Balor at Elimination Chamber 2026 ahead of his scheduled match against Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 42.
Stone Cold Steve Austin reacts to WWE legend’s heel turn
Stone Cold shared his thoughts on John Cena turning heel during his retirement tour last year.
Cena turned heel during his final WWE run last year before ultimately becoming a babyface again. The Cenation Leader’s in-ring career came to an end following his loss to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December 2025.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, Austin suggested that the company waited too long to turn Cena heel and admitted that he preferred him as a babyface.
“A lot of people wanted to see at least one John Cena heel turn in his run. It was okay. It was okay, you know? I like him better as a babyface. I wanted to see him as a heel at some point during his career. The way that it was done, and I’m not knocking booking, just like, man, this far in? Forget about it. Just let him do his thing; f**king kids love that guy,” he said.
Only time will tell if Stone Cold Steve Austin ever decides to compete in another WWE match.
