CBSA Seizes 1,010 kg of Drugs at Coutts Canada-US Border

Canada Border Services Agency officers intercepted a massive 1,010 kilograms of illegal drugs in three separate operations at the Coutts, Alberta, border crossing with the United States.

Details of the Seizures

The drugs consisted of cocaine, methamphetamine, suspected heroin, and opium poppy products.

On November 26, 2025, detector dogs assisted in searching a commercial truck loaded with electrolyte beverages bound for Calgary. Officers discovered 461 kilograms of suspected heroin and one gram of opium hidden inside.

The second incident occurred on December 2, 2025, involving a truck pulling an empty trailer. A thorough inspection of the cab revealed 300 kilograms of cocaine and 400 grams of suspected opium poppy products.

On December 8, 2025, another truck declared to carry vacuum parts for Calgary yielded 206 kilograms of methamphetamine during a detailed examination.

In each case, authorities arrested the drivers on smuggling charges and handed them over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Alberta Seizure Totals for 2025

Throughout 2025, CBSA officers in Alberta conducted 1,292 drug seizures, confiscating 1,054 kilograms of cocaine and 279 kilograms of methamphetamine.
