Epstein Email Reveals Concerns Over Trump’s Mental State
Newly released documents from Jeffrey Epstein’s files include a 2017 email where the financier claimed attendees at a dinner with then-President Donald Trump ed worries about dementia. Epstein wrote that Trump struggled to recognize longtime acquaintances during the gathering.
In the December 29, 2017, message to author Michael Wolff, Epstein stated that people meeting Trump were “concerned about dementia” because the president “couldn’t recognise old friends.” He also noted Trump was wearing “tons of makeup,” highlighting unusual behavior observed by those present.
Context from Epstein Files
The email forms part of a larger batch of Epstein correspondence disclosed by the U.S. Department of Justice following 2025 legislation mandating transparency. These files detail Epstein’s private views on Trump during his first term, amid a once-close relationship that soured years earlier.
Epstein and Trump socialized in elite circles in the 1990s and early 2000s, including flights on private jets and events at Mar-a-Lago. Their association ended around 2004 over a property dispute, after which Trump distanced himself, later calling Epstein a “creep.”
Broader Insights from Released Emails
Other messages in the files show Epstein’s evolving criticism of Trump, describing him as “evil,” “nuts,” “dangerous,” and speculating on “early dementia” in additional 2017 and 2018 exchanges. Epstein positioned himself as possessing leverage over Trump, including claims about shared knowledge of activities involving young women.
Officials from the House Oversight Committee, which reviewed the documents, emphasize ongoing efforts to release remaining files for public scrutiny and accountability for Epstein’s victims.
