Officers in Commerce City, Colorado, encountered a striking sight when they spotted a man balancing on a unicycle while juggling flaming torches on a busy pedestrian crossing. The unusual performance unfolded at the intersection of US-85 and East 60th Avenue.
Viral Drone Captures the Act
Police drone footage shows the performer, dressed in vibrant clothing, riding back and forth across the crosswalk during green lights for pedestrians. Drivers reported the spectacle, prompting officers to respond. Although the act impressed observers with its skillful balance and fire handling, authorities deemed it unsafe and illegal.
Authorities noted that such performances violate rules against trespassing in the median and delaying traffic by lingering in the crosswalk. Regular enforcement at the intersection has curbed similar interruptions from pedestrians offering goods or services.
Official Statement on the Performance
The Commerce City Police Department addressed the incident online, stating: “This post was certainly not on our Bingo card, yet here we are. The intersection of US-85 and 60th isn’t exactly the Las Vegas Strip… or is it? We got numerous calls the other day when drivers were treated to a little stoplight entertainment courtesy of this fire-juggling unicyclist. Our drone caught his act, which was both quite good and quite illegal.”
They added: “So let’s all take a moment to appreciate this man’s talents then all agree that we aren’t going to do stuff like this. Mmkay?”
No Charges, Focus on Safety
The video quickly gained widespread attention, with viewers worldwide praising the performer’s talent and inquiring about his fate. In an update, officers clarified: “Everybody calm down. We didn’t give him a ticket. But we also don’t want him to die so we moved him along. His show would best be performed somewhere other than the middle of the roadway.”
