Residents near the scene of a violent street attack in Tameside expressed shock after hearing intense screams during the incident. A man in his 30s suffered serious injuries from an assault involving multiple attackers wielding weapons on Greenside Crescent in Droylsden around 6 p.m. on Friday, January 30.
Details of the Attack
The street stayed secured with police tape into Saturday, including a blue forensic tent set up at the location. Officers conducted searches in the vicinity and visited homes to gather information. Authorities have not specified the type of weapons used, but investigations confirm the victim was not stabbed.
Greater Manchester Police are working to determine the reason behind the assault, which occurred on a typically peaceful residential street frequented by families.
Local Residents’ Accounts
People in the area described the sudden disturbance on what is usually a calm neighborhood. Scott Anderton, 28, who lives nearby, recounted the events while watching television with his son.
“I heard lots of screaming and shouting. Blood-curdling screaming,” Anderton said. “I looked out and there was two people in hoods stood there. They just bolted. People ran out and there was a lot of running back and forth between houses. I was trying to figure out what had happened. I couldn’t see him; he must have been lying on the floor. I think it was about 20 minutes later the police were here.”
He added that the presence of police throughout the night and into the next day heightened concerns, especially in a family-oriented area where children play regularly.
A woman returning from work witnessed the aftermath upon arrival. “We pulled up; a couple of the neighbors were both out, and someone was on the floor. It looked like he was covered in blood,” she said. “I asked if they needed any help and they said ‘no, it’s okay, the police were on their way.’ The kids play out on the street all the time; there’s lots of them around here.”
Billy Roberts, 56, learned of the incident while at a local pub. “He got a call from his missus saying there had been some trouble in the street,” Roberts explained. “He came round and the police were here and there were loads of flashing lights. It’s shocking. You don’t really get much around here. It’s quite a quiet crescent. You don’t really see any trouble or violence.”
Roberts expressed hopes for the victim’s quick recovery. Another longtime resident, who has lived there for nearly 30 years, noted the rarity of such events. “I came out about 6:30 p.m. and the whole street was taped off. All we were told was that it was a serious incident,” he said. “They said they were waiting for a sniffer dog to come in. It was a shock. It’s normally a very quiet street.”
Police Investigation and Appeal
Detective Inspector Paul Cawsey of Tameside CID provided an update on the ongoing probe. “The investigation is at an early stage as we try to establish the motivation behind this incident that has resulted in a man being treated at the scene and in hospital,” Cawsey stated. “It is believed the assault was carried out by a number of individuals using weapons that have caused serious injury to the victim. We have officers in the area as we continue our investigation and to provide a reassuring presence.”
Police urge anyone with details, including CCTV, doorbell, or phone footage from the area that evening, to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting log 2715-30/01/2026.
