Man arrested for assaulting U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost at Sundance

PARK CITY, Utah — A person was arrested Friday night time at a celebration in the course of the Sundance Movie Competition in Park Metropolis, Utah, for allegedly assaulting a Florida congressman.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost wrote on X Saturday that he was punched within the face by a person who advised Frost that President Donald Trump was going to deport him. The altercation occurred at a personal celebration hosted by expertise company CAA on the Excessive West Distillery, a preferred venue for festival-adjacent occasions.

“He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off,” Frost wrote. “The person was arrested and I’m okay.”

Frost, the primary Gen Z member of Congress, thanked the venue safety and the Park Metropolis Police Division for his or her assist.

Christian Joel Younger, 28, was arrested for aggravated housebreaking, assaulting an elected official and assault and transported to Summit County Jail, in line with courtroom information.

Younger can also be accused of grabbing a girl by the shoulder. He appeared to have crashed the celebration by leaping a fence and had a Sundance Movie Competition move that was not issued in his identify, in line with the police affidavit.

The Sundance Movie Competition representatives launched an announcement saying that they “strongly condemn” the assault, noting that whereas it occurred at a non-affiliated occasion that the conduct is “in opposition to our values of upholding a welcoming and galvanizing atmosphere for all our attendees.”

“The security and safety of our pageant attendees is at all times our chief concern, and our ideas are with Congressman Frost and his continued well-being,” the assertion learn. “We encourage anybody with extra info on this matter to contact the Park Metropolis Police Division.”

County Decide Richard Mrazik ordered Younger held with out bail, on the grounds that he would represent, “a considerable hazard to every other particular person or to the neighborhood, or is prone to flee the jurisdiction of the courtroom if launched on bail.” Younger has a previous misdemeanor conviction, in line with courtroom information.

Home Minority Chief Hakeem Jeffries wrote on X that he was horrified by the assault and that “the perpetrator should be aggressively prosecuted.”

“Hate and political violence has no place in our nation,” Jeffries continued.
