Tropical Storm Chantal forecast to convey heavy rain to the Carolinas

MIAMI — Tropical Storm Chantal shaped off the southeast U.S. coast and was forecast to convey heavy rains to components of the Carolinas on Saturday. Tropical storm warnings had been issued for parts of the 2 states, the Nationwide Hurricane Middle in Miami stated.

The storm’s heart was about 65 miles east of Charleston, South Carolina, on Saturday night time, and 120 miles south-southwest of Wilmington, North Carolina. Its most sustained winds had been clocked at 50 mph, and it was shifting north at 8 mph.

Rain bands from Chantal had been shifting over the coast, the hurricane heart stated, and the storm’s heart was anticipated to maneuver over South Carolina in a single day or early Sunday with flash floods an growing concern. The storm was anticipated to weaken quickly after landfall.
