To the editor: I completely loved the Los Angeles Occasions investigation piece in regards to the Downtown LA Legislation Group (“The rise of DTLA: Automobile crashes, pricey surgical procedures and a $4-billion intercourse abuse settlement,” Dec. 31). The article was fantastically written. Rebecca Ellis (and Christopher Buchanan, who contributed) did a masterful job weaving all the knowledge into a fabulous informational mosaic.

I used to be additionally disgusted by what I learn.

After I watch the information at night time, I’m appalled by the onslaught of televised attorneys expounding their ability and dedication to attain “justice” for shoppers. They remind me of televangelists. I suppose the rise of tv attorneys was fueled by insurance coverage firms’ callous responses to many real-life private catastrophes. Nonetheless, I discover their pleas for shoppers to be distasteful at greatest.

The Occasions story highlights the worst (and predictable) habits of this occupation. DTLA is, I worry, the tip of the iceberg. And all these trumped-up fits solely value all of us by the use of larger insurance coverage charges.

Permitting the authorized occupation to promote has resulted in sanctioned ambulance-chasing. It’s time to limit their promoting and return integrity to the authorized occupation.
