To the editor: That is the one article that was revealed within the Jan. 6 print version that even mentions the despicable assault on the Capitol on its anniversary (“Officers who defended the Capitol on Jan. 6 say their struggles linger,” Jan. 4). Let’s take inventory.
We elected a president who nonetheless contends that the 2020 election was stolen from him (regardless of overwhelming proof on the contrary). He’s supported by a Congress with a majority of Republicans who’re complicit by their silence or rationalizations.
The officers on this article, amongst many others, have been brutally attacked, and so they should take care of the truth that, as one in every of his first acts in his second time period, this president pardoned about 1,500 rioters convicted for his or her actions that day. He referred to as them “patriots” and “hostages” and thought of their convictions “a grave nationwide injustice,” for God’s sake.
In keeping with Mary Clare Jalonick, the author of this text, “A number of officers who fought the rioters stated the toughest factor to take care of has been the hassle by many to minimize the violence, regardless of a large trove of video and photographic proof documenting it.” I share these officers’ astonishment (and their ache) on the capability of many human beings to disclaim a stark actuality that’s staring them within the face. And but, they do. Consequently, 77 million voters elected a president who lives in a fantasy world.
