L.A. Metropolis Corridor rotunda, home windows, menorah show broken in break-in

A person has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing Metropolis Corridor on New 12 months’s Day, police stated Saturday.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Division’s Safety Companies Division responded at roughly 6:30 p.m. Thursday to experiences of intensive injury to each the inside and exterior of Metropolis Corridor, in response to an LAPD assertion.

Police stated the suspect gained entry by way of the First Road entrance by breaking a locked glass door, “and proceeded to the third flooring, the place
a number of areas, together with the hallway and rotunda, have been vandalized.”

The suspect, recognized as Jose Gonzalez Chavez, then left the ability and was taken into custody with out incident, police added. Chavez was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism.

“I used to be knowledgeable yesterday that a person broke into Metropolis Corridor on the night of New 12 months’s Day and broken a lot of objects on the second and third flooring of Metropolis Corridor, together with home windows, a glass show case, laptop gear and the Katowicz menorah which was displayed within the third flooring rotunda,” Mayor Karen Bass stated in an announcement Saturday.

“Whereas there isn’t any indication that the vandalism to the menorah was a hate crime, I used to be deeply disturbed that this historic menorah was broken,” the assertion continued. “I personally known as the Cunin household, who annually generously mortgage the menorah to Metropolis Corridor and the individuals of Los Angeles, to tell them of the incident. The person suspected of the vandalism was arrested by LAPD and is being evaluated for psychological well being considerations. A full analysis of safety at Metropolis Corridor is already underway.”

Metropolis Information Service is the nation’s largest regional wire service and is headquartered in Los Angeles.
