Some 1,500 active-duty troopers have been positioned on standby for potential deployment to Minneapolis, a protection official confirmed to CBS Information, as tensions within the metropolis have mounted after a girl was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.

Deploying the troopers, from the eleventh Airborne Division at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska, is one possibility for which the army is planning in case President Trump decides to make use of active-duty army personnel to answer the continuing demonstrations, the official stated. No resolution has been made on whether or not to deploy the troopers.
