U.S. forces seize fifth oil tanker linked to Venezuela

A fifth oil tanker linked to Venezuela was interdicted by U.S. forces within the Caribbean, U.S. Southern Command confirmed on Friday.

Two U.S. officers confirmed to CBS Information that the Coast Guard, supported by the Navy, was within the means of seizing the Olina oil tanker.

Southern Command stated Marines and sailors launched from the usGerald R. Ford plane provider for the pre-dawn operation to help the Division of Homeland Safety as a part of “its mission to defend our homeland by ending illicit exercise and restoring safety within the Western Hemisphere.”

U.S. authorities data present that the Olina was sanctioned for shifting Russian oil beneath its prior identify, Minerva M, and flagged in Panama, the Related Press reported.

Homeland Safety Secretary Kristi Noem, who shared an extended video of the seizure on Friday, stated the Olina was a “ghost fleet” tanker ship that departed Venezuela, “making an attempt to evade U.S. forces.”

“The ghost fleets is not going to outrun justice. They won’t conceal beneath false claims of nationality,” Noem stated on X. “The Coast Guard will seize sanctioned oil tankers, implement U.S. and worldwide regulation, and eradicate these funding streams for illicit exercise together with narco-terrorism.”
