tvOS 26.4 enters beta testing, with a full release slated for next month. Apple TV 4K owners will enjoy three key improvements designed to enhance usability and performance.
Streamlined Subtitle Customization
Apple TV users now access subtitle appearance options directly in the native video player of the Apple TV app. A new ‘Style’ menu appears when turning subtitles on or off, offering various predefined styles. The ‘Manage Styles’ button directs users to Accessibility settings for creating personalized subtitle looks.
Apps relying on the default tvOS video player adopt this feature seamlessly, though custom players in many streaming services limit its reach primarily to the Apple TV app.
Continuous Audio Connection Toggle
Found in Settings > Video and Audio > Audio Format under HDMI Output, the new ‘Continuous Audio Connection’ option maintains a steady audio link. This addresses compatibility issues, including those with Sonos speakers, and supports broader audio setups.
Enabling the toggle resolves common audio disruptions in Apple TV configurations.
Full Integration Ends Standalone iTunes Apps
tvOS 26.4 completes the transition by eliminating the separate Movies and TV Shows apps. All essential functions now reside within the unified TV app, a shift long in progress.
Users with iTunes Wish Lists face discontinuation soon. Apple recommends transferring items to the TV app’s Watchlist, which provides comparable tracking capabilities.
