President Donald Trump stated Saturday {that a} U.S. navy strike destroyed a “very massive drug-carrying submarine” within the Caribbean this week, killing two suspected narcoterrorists and capturing two others alive, whereas releasing video of the strike.

In a press release posted to Fact Social, Trump stated the vessel was carrying principally “fentanyl and different narcotics” towards the U.S. on a “well-known narcotrafficking transit route.” He claimed the interdiction prevented as many as 25,000 American overdose deaths.

“It was my nice honor to destroy a really massive DRUG-CARRYING SUBMARINE,” Trump wrote. “U.S. Intelligence confirmed this vessel was loaded up with principally Fentanyl… There have been 4 recognized narcoterrorists on board. Two of the terrorists had been killed.” 

“The 2 surviving terrorists are being returned to their Nations of origin, Ecuador and Colombia, for detention and prosecution.”

Fox Information beforehand confirmed that two survivors had been rescued by the U.S. Navy after the strike, and had been being held aboard an American warship. Trump’s assertion is the primary official acknowledgment of their identities and nationalities.

The strike marked the sixth U.S. interdiction of a suspected drug smuggling vessel since fight operations started within the Caribbean final month. The Pentagon has not publicly named the operation.

Trump first referenced the strike publicly throughout a gathering Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the White Home.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, talking individually Friday, didn’t dispute the existence of survivors however stated additional particulars could be launched later.
