To the editor: The day earlier than Rob Reiner was erased from this airplane of existence, I despatched him an e-mail saying how humorous “Spinal Faucet II: The Finish Continues” was (“As information of Rob Reiner’s killing worsens, let’s bear in mind his legacy rooted in empathy,” Dec. 15). He responded instantly with a thanks. I feel he was happy {that a} rock ‘n’ curler was resonating along with his newest spoof on my occupation.

The wild nation singer, Kinky Friedman, mentioned in a tune that “They ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore.” Reiner was a Jew — a Jew who overtly admired Jesus’ teachings of kindness, love and generosity. The huge quantity of political work he did, method past his good filmmaking and performing, was motivated by compassion. He cared a lot, he even “reached throughout the aisle” to attempt to discover widespread floor to alleviate the ache and struggling of the much less lucky.

The one salve for my disappointment over what occurred could be seeing individuals come collectively in kindness over it. Reiner was a bringer of the sunshine. On this darkish time of yr, let’s honor him by shedding extra of it — way more — on one another. That’s the true spirit of the vacations. Reward-giving is good, however a lot sweeter is the present of affection.

John Densmore, Los Angeles
