Samsung delivers a significant free upgrade to its UK TV owners, introducing a wealth of additional content directly to screens. UK viewers now access popular UKTV free-to-air linear channels for the first time without extra devices, all streamed over the internet for seamless plug-and-play viewing—no traditional aerial required.
Enhanced Home Screen Access
Samsung integrates a dedicated rail on the home screen, spotlighting content from the U streaming service. This setup provides instant access to classic comedies, dramas, and factual programming, bypassing complex menu searches.
Upcoming Channel Additions
By later this year, channels such as U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&YESTERDAY, U&W, and U&eden become available through deep links from Samsung’s Universal Guide straight into the U app. The rollout targets millions of Samsung TVs, placing these channels prominently in the ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide to elevate both live broadcasts and on-demand options for internet-reliant viewers.
Key Statements from Leaders
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, highlights the strengthened collaboration. “This new deal strengthens our collaboration with Samsung,” he states. “It will make the U app even more accessible to Samsung customers and ensure UKTV’s diverse range of content remains highly visible across both video-on-demand and live channels.”
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, emphasizes UKTV’s value. “We’re always looking to help our customers enjoy the best possible entertainment experience, and with UKTV we’re bringing access to a wide range of broadcast content,” he notes. “As the world’s number one TV brand for 20 consecutive years, Samsung is committed to innovation that improves every part of the viewing experience. This partnership highlights our dedication to offering a complete entertainment ecosystem, combining UKTV’s content with services such as Samsung TV Plus and built-in broadcast app access.”
While no precise launch date is set, these features roll out on Samsung TVs in the coming months.
