A woman loading packages into her USPS van in a t-shirt and loose pants appears as an ordinary postal worker. Yet she is Robin Johnson, the 61-year-old former actress once hailed as the ‘female John Travolta’ by producer Robert Stigwood, known for Grease and Saturday Night Fever.

Early Hollywood Promise

Johnson gained early buzz after her role in the 1980 film Times Square alongside Tim Curry and Trini Alvarado. US magazine listed her among ’80s Arrivals’ alongside Matt Dillon. The musical drama, envisioned as a new wave take on Saturday Night Fever, positioned the raspy-voiced Brooklyn native as a breakout star playing Nicky Marotta, a rebellious teen rocker in the fictional Sleez Sisters band.

Critics like Roger Ebert called it a ‘missed opportunity,’ but it has since earned cult status with a acclaimed soundtrack featuring Johnson’s songs.

Career Momentum Halted

A strict three-year contract with Stigwood barred Johnson from other projects. When promised roles failed to materialize, she worked as a bank teller until it expired. Subsequent films included Splitz (1982), Baby It’s You (1983), and a punk girl in Martin Scorsese’s After Hours (1985). She appeared as prostitute Candy James flirting with Don Johnson’s Crockett on Miami Vice (1985), starred in Code Name: Foxfire (1985), featured in D.O.A. (1988), and wrapped a stint on Guiding Light (1984-1988). No acting roles followed.

In the 1990s, Johnson served as a traffic reporter for Los Angeles station KFWB-AM before returning to Florida in the 2000s.

Quiet Life in Florida

Johnson now delivers mail in Inverness, Florida, a city of 7,540 residents 70 miles north of Orlando and Tampa. Recent sightings show her efficiently loading Amazon packages into her white USPS van at a local depot. Her red hair and bright green glasses evoke her past rebellious roles. She pauses briefly for coffee and a cigarette before continuing deliveries.

She shares a neat $174,000 two-bedroom condo in a lakeside gated community with communal pool with her 62-year-old sister Cindy.

Recent Financial Recovery

Johnson emerged from her second bankruptcy in February 2026 after filing in November 2025, owing over $102,000 to creditors including credit cards, payday lenders, and the IRS. She focuses on rebuilding through her postal service job.

When approached about her life, Johnson stated: ‘I am not interested. I don’t want to talk to anyone. Please leave.’

Though fans hope for a comeback drawn to her grit and charisma, Johnson maintains a simple, contented routine.
