The state of Oregon filed a lawsuit Sunday to dam President Donald Trump’s plan to deploy 200 Nationwide Guard troops to Portland.

The swimsuit was introduced by Oregon Lawyer Normal Dan Rayfield inside hours of Gov. Tina Kotek receiving a memo from Division of Struggle Secretary Pete Hegseth, during which he approved the troop deployment for 60 days.

In line with the order seen by Fox Information Digital, the federally managed Oregon Nationwide Guard can be stationed in Portland to guard federal property “the place protests are occurring or prone to happen.”

Kotek, Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, and Rayfield, all Democrats, responded by collectively submitting the problem in federal courtroom, arguing the administration’s transfer is “illegal” and pointless.

On Saturday, Trump posted on Reality Social that he had directed Hegseth to ship “all mandatory Troops to guard war-ravaged Portland, and another ICE services beneath siege from assault by Antifa and different home terrorists.”

Kotek additionally stated Saturday she had spoken immediately with the president earlier than Sunday’s order and had urged him to not ship in troops. 

“Our metropolis is a far cry from the war-ravaged neighborhood he has posted on social media,” Kotek instructed reporters at a information convention at Tom McCall Waterfront Park.

The lawsuit follows an identical case filed by California in June, after the administration despatched troops to Los Angeles.
