Chase Pistone passed away at the age of 42, leaving behind a racing legacy as both driver and team owner. The former NASCAR driver last competed in the series in 2014.

Pistone was born on August 20, 1983, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He’s the grandson of two-time Cup Series winner ‘Tiger’ Tom Pistone. Pistone began with a successful stint in the Legends, Late Model, and the CARS Racing Tour, claiming 80 feature wins in the early 2000s.

He made his maiden Truck Series start in the 2005 race at Martinsville Speedway. Driving the No.07 truck for Green Light Racing, Pistone finished 35th. His comeback race in 2006 was cut short by a mechanical failure. However, Pistone scored a top-10 ARCA finish the same year, competing in the No. 50 Dodge for Bobby Jones Racing at Iowa Speedway.

When he was 30, Pistone returned to the sport after seven years and signed a 14-race Truck Series deal with NTS Motorsports. He racked up 141 points and recorded his best finish at ninth in Gateway. Meanwhile, his O’Reilly starts that year produced three top-20 results.

Apart from his NASCAR stint, Pistone also built Legend and Late Model Stock Cars under his own banner, Chase Pistone Inc. He’d go on to win multiple championships with the team.

Pistone’s brother, Tom, broke the news of his passing with a Facebook post.

“Well my young brother and best friend is gone. I’m broken hearted and don’t know if I’ll ever get over this. I miss you Chase already and I hope you are you are in a better place. I love you and I miss you so much already!!!!!!!,” he wrote.

Tributes poured in from all corners of the sport. While the cause of his death isn’t clear, Chase Pistone’s brothers spoke to the Legends Nation outlet and asked to post about the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Bubba Wallace mourns Chase Pistone’s death

Bubba Wallace took to X and mourned Chase Pistone’s passing. The 23XI Racing driver also addressed the mass shooting in Austin, Texas.

“Been in the feels.. Woke up Sunday morning at 2am wide awake.. stumbled across an old tune that shook me. Only to realize later on at 2am was when the shooting happened in Austin. A guy I raced with in legends cars took his life today.. Just a lot of damn sadness man..,” he wrote.

“Makes you think about life and how precious it is,” Wallace added, “That tune… Nutshell- Alice In Chains Love yall.”

Chase Pistone won four Summer Shootout Championship legends before 2005. Around the same time, Bubba Wallace had won 38 races in the Bandalero Series.

Pistone’s obituary is yet to be published. Raymer Kepner Funeral Home will officially conduct his memorial services.
