Jonah Heim’s wife, Mackenzie, recently reacted to Eric Dane’s death. The 53-year-old Hollywood actor died on Thursday from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

ALS is a terminal neurodegenerative disease. Though extremely rare, it’s the most common motor neuron disease. There is no known cure for ALS. The average survival rate of ALS patients from onset to death is between two and four years.

The Atlanta Braves catcher’s wife reshared Fox News’ social media post announcing Dane’s death on her Instagram story on Friday.

“My mom and I would bing Greys together,” she wrote in the post. “I’m so heartbroken. This disease is absolutely terrible. I hate it. Give my momma a hug.”

Dane was diagnosed with ALS in April 2025. He had shown symptoms from the year prior. A month after his diagnosis, the actor lost use of his right arm and hand. He began using a wheelchair in October.

Dane is best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloane in “Grey’s Anatomy,” the popular medical drama series. After a guest role in season two, he became part of the main cast from season three to nine.

More recently, he essayed the role of Cal Jacobs, Jacob Elordi’s character’s father, in “Euphoria.” The third season is set to premiere on April 12.

Jonah Heim’s mother-in-law passed away due to ALS

Jonah Heim’s mother-in-law, Hillary Prince, died in 2024 after complications from ALS. The Texas Rangers, Heim’s then-team, honored her in June 2025 by supporting the ALS foundation. Heim’s father-in-law, Gary Prince, threw the ceremonial first pitch the same day.

Heim and his wife hosted a special Mystery Ball fundraiser on May 30 for their fight against ALS. The Rangers honored Hillary the next day, and also gave a check to the ALS association.

Hillary was earlier honored by the Rangers in 2023 for Lou Gehrig’s Day, where she threw the ceremonial first pitch to Heim.

Lou Gehrig was a New York Yankees legend. Nicknamed the “Iron Horse,” Gehrig played 17 seasons at first base. He died in 1941, two years after his ALS diagnosis.

Gehrig was a seven-time MLB All-Star and won six World Series with the Yankees. He was the American League MVP in 1927 and 1936.
